Got wine? We can help….

Maidstone Construction has developed a taste for wine – cellars, that is! Over the years we have enjoyed working with our clients to create great spaces that will allow them to fully enjoy their wine collections. No space is too small to fit in a few racks customized to your bottle sizes – whether the large volume formats, or splits and wood cases. It is important to consider all the design elements in a room of this type – from the entry door or gate to the ceiling, wall and floor finishes.

In this narrow cellar, a tasting counter and bar area were designed to showcase the wood crates of our client’s favorite brands. Our carpenter carefully fitted and shimmed the pieces of crates to a smooth surface, banding the edges with a custom rustic hammered iron nosing.

The rack designs included dramatic diamond-pattern storage as well as efficient and practical square box shelving. All were custom built by Maidstone’s carpenters using birch plywood and finished in a “Deep Red” Benjamin Moore semi-gloss latex paint.

As most of us know, wine is preserved, or aged to its fullest potential, only in optimal environments. This particular cellar utilizes a Mitsubishi inverter heat pump with delivery from a high wall air handler concealed behind a custom wood grill. Humidity levels are controlled by a “Wine Guardian Freestanding Humidification System” from www.WineRacksAmerica.com.

Another design element critical to the striking appearance of this wine cellar is the flooring provided by Carlisle Wide Plank Floors of Stoddard, NH, http://www.wideplankflooring.com . “Old Growth Engineered Walnut”, prefinished with Carlisle Amber Satin Finish, is a beautiful complement to the rich red cabinets. And to help you find just the bottle you’re looking for, we suggest wine bottle tags, available online at http://www.wineenthusiast.com/.

Wine Cellars don’t really have to be below ground! Recently our clients wanted to showcase their collection and have convenient access from the nearby dining room. Maidstone created an intimate but welcoming space using custom iron gates, a Sienna flagstone floor, and native fieldstone veneer walls, creating a distinct old world ambience. Iron provided by Iron Masters of Frederick, MD.

The Viking “Tri-Zone” Wine Cellar cooler holds 150 bottles and comes with a door alarm and lock. The custom cabinets are Maple Ridge Cabinetry in rustic alder, provided by WaterStone Kitchen and Bath.

Maidstone’s talented carpenters built the diamond-style storage from rustic barn boards to fit into the arched openings. Antique reclaimed oak beams help to create a warm and cozy mood as reflected throughout this Tuscan-inspired home.
